2. Journal Assignment: Write on 1 of the assigned topics below. What I want you to get out of this journal is to look at different ways to say or describe things, think outside of the normal writing box.
Before you choose your topic you will need to tweak three of the following cliche phrases to different wording that means the same thing (think of a new way to say it). You will need to use these 3 tweaked cliches in your journal topic. Here is the list of common cliche's. (You will have to also turn in your list of tweaked cliches along with your journal)
1) What goes around comes around. 2) Blowing smoke. 3) Love is blind. 4) The old ball and chain. 5) Over the hill. 6) Give and take. 7) All bent out of shape. 8) Bait and switch. 9) The ball is in your court. 10) Like father, like son. 11) Following in his/her footsteps. 12) Spitting image. 13) Bite the dust. 14) Easy as pie. 15) Keep your fingers crossed. 16) The light at the end of the tunnel. 17) Money doesn't grow on trees. 18) The game is on the line. 19) Rome wasn't built in a day. 20) When it rains it pours. 21) Action packed. 22) Out of the box.

Sometimes we use words too often or that are unnecessary. Below is a list of over used words. Any of the words on the list you cannot use in this journal entry.
List: Absolutely, awesome, a bit, by, so, often, when, because, therefore, very, really, thereafter, amazing, bad, fine, good, said, happy, well, nice, interesting.

Now, choose one of the topics below to write on. You will need to write 1 page about the cause or effect of the topic, or both. Refer to Chapter 12 in the book if you need help.
Topics: 1) Plagiarism 2) Unemployment 3) Divorce 4) Deforestation 5) Poverty 6) Cheating
